If there is a sport that fans in the UK take seriously, it is football and the English Football League administers
play of the twenty teams of the Barclay’s Premier League. The football season runs from August to May with each of the twenty teams play 38 games. The league is sponsored by the Barclay’s Bank which gives it it’s name.
Since it’s formation in 1992 the league has grown in popularity to be the most watched sporting league of any kind which is an incredible turn around from the lack of fan support in the 1980’s. During that time, attendance as well as revenue had greatly decreased and football appeared to be on the way out. But things began to turn around in the early 90’s and with the formation of the new premier league, football found a new and stronger fan base than ever before.
When the new league was formed they had the freedom to negotiate their own television broadcasting and sponsorship agreement which enabled the once struggling sport to be competitive against the best of Europe. They began to recruit the best players in the world and are now the most loved sports league in the country.
After the twenty teams have played each other twice, the champion is the team with the most scored points and if there is a tie, it is broken by the goal difference breaks the tie.
Football is most loved sport of the world with thousands of fans cheering their teams on to victory.
